Circulation Policy
All currently enrolled students (as evidenced by a currently validated student ID card or fee receipt),
and currently employed faculty and staff members of Chattahoochee Tech may check out circulating
materials. Also, currently enrolled students and currently employed faculty and staff of Southern
Polytechnic State University, Kennesaw State University, Reinhardt College and other TCSG libraries share the same privileges.
Circulating books may be checked out for a three week period and be renewed for another three weeks if
needed.
Patrons may check out a maximum of 10 items at one time.
Overdue fines for books and most other materials are assessed at the rate of $0.10/day. Other circulating
materials may have differing fines. Fines may accumulate to a maximum of $10.00 per item.
Patrons with overdue materials must return them and pay all fines before checking out more materials.
At the end of each quarter all circulating materials must be returned to the library on or before a
specified date.
Failure to return checked out materials will result in the student being placed on Library hold,
preventing subsequent registration or transcript release until the materials are returned to the library
and fines paid. Students with total fines of $20.00 or greater will also be placed on Library hold.
Patrons who lose library materials will be charged replacement cost plus a processing fee. Processing fees are $15.00 for regular library materials, and $2.00 for paperback fiction. Overdue fines are waived for lost materials.
In the event a lost item is later found and returned to the library the replacement cost will be refunded.
Students who have registered for the next quarter and have presented an updated ID card or fee receipt
may keep materials until a due date past the end of quarter.
Reference items and periodicals may not be checked out, but must be used within the Library
Reserve items may be obtained at the circulation desk and may be used within the Library. Some reserve
items may be checked out for varying periods; check at the circulation desk. Circulating Reserve items
may not be renewed. They must remain available to other patrons for 24 hours before they may be
re-charged by the same patron. They are fined at a rate of $.50 per day Reserve materials are only
available to CTC students and faculty.
Library Internet Use Policy
All patron workstations within the Library are connected to the Internet (World Wide Web). You are encouraged
to make the greatest possible use of these computers, within the following guidelines:
You...
may use the workstations freely for research and educational purposes without fear of censorship or
interference.
may use the workstations for personal and recreational web browsing. We recognize the educational value
of this activity and encourage it, but require that any workstation in use for this purpose be
relinquished to any patron needing to perform research or other class-related activity, if no other
workstations are available.
must not use the workstations to interfere with the work of other students, faculty, or staff or
interfere with the normal operation of the College information systems or connecting networks (this would
include refraining from the use of bandwidth-gobbling technologies such as real-time chat, e-mail chain
letters, or automated bulk-mailing programs). Ordinary e-mail usage is permitted and encouraged.
must not send any messages which are obscene, abusive, derogatory, or otherwise harassing.
must not use Library workstations to attempt unauthorized entry into any computer systems at
Chattahoochee Tech or elsewhere.
must not use Library workstations to harass or interfere with the work of any individuals or
organizations at Chattahoochee Tech or elsewhere.
must not change or alter configuration settings on the Library workstations.
must not engage in any activity that would violate laws of the United States or the State of Georgia.
The Chattahoochee Tech Library supports the principles of free access to information as codified in the First
Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, the American Library Association's Library Bill
of Rights and the interpretation of it on Accessing Electronic Information, Services, and Networks. We do not
filter Internet access (see the ALA statement on the library use of filtering software) or attempt to censor
the access of adults to information in any way. We do, however, ask that patrons respect the sensibilities of
others and not display graphic or offensive images or content in such a manner as may be considered harassing
or which interferes with the rights of others to not view such material.
Failure to adhere to these guidelines could result in suspension of usage privileges, or other discipline as
appropriate.
